Even though retail stores put up their Christmas and Hanukkah displays as soon as Labor Day hit, I’m still set on enjoying autumn. This means taking in all things pumpkin: pumpkin patches, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin beer, pumpkin pie, Reese’s peanut butter pumpkins and more! But the coolest part about fall? That honor goes to Halloween (who cares if 18 years have passed since it’s been acceptable for me to go trick-or-treating?).
Halloween presents the promotional industry with a ton of cool ideas. Looking to go beyond the standard ghosts and goblins? Here are three ways to market the scariest time of year to your advantage.
1. Get creative with color.
This idea allows apparel companies to get in on the action. Halloween-themed apparel is great, but what if that’s not part of your company’s product line? Try marketing with “spooky colors,” instead (or “creepy colors,” if you’re into alliteration). Write a blog post for your website that includes a tutorial on how to use different shades of orange, black or green to get in the Halloween spirit.
2. Get festive with logos on social media.
Chances are high that your company has a Facebook page, a Twitter account, or a LinkedIn profile. Why not use this as an opportunity to have some fun with your company logo? It doesn’t have to be over-the-top, or involve the spooky colors listed above. Incorporate a small pumpkin in the lower right-hand corner (or wherever appropriate). A subtle fall-inspired leaf works if you’re just trying to capture the spirit of the season itself.
3. Get inspired with food.
The treats are arguably the best part about Halloween. While the awesomeness of candy and baked goods stands alone, give clients something extra to enjoy. Share a few ghoulish recipes and the like on your website or through an email campaign. Bonus points if recipes feature your company’s edible products.
